Reading the timeline
- Click the axis
- Zoom in four times around that moment. Keep clicking: years become months become days. The opening view is logarithmic so that recorded history is not a sliver; the Scale button at its top left switches to a linear axis, and a bracket jumps straight to recorded history.
- Shift+click · - · Zoom out
- Step back out. 0 or Home returns to all of humanity.
- Wheel · pinch · drag
- Zoom around the pointer and pan. The strip under the header shows where you are; click or drag it to jump.
- Click an event
- Open its panel: a map, the story, links, what else happened around then, sometimes a museum object. Copy link shares that exact event. Zoomed in to a month or less, you can load Wikipedia's day-by-day events.
- / Search
- Find any of the events by name and jump to it.
- Legend
- Show or hide categories (Shift+click shows one alone) and filter by region.
- ← → Pan
- Slide a fifth of the view sideways (Shift: four fifths). In a guided tour the arrows step through it instead.
- R Reigns · P Lives · E Earth
- Rulers, or the lifespans of notable people, as rows across the top; climate, population and the largest city beneath the axis.
